Until recently, Colston Bassett Primary School served the village and also attracted pupils from surrounding communities. However, due to falling rolls, it succumbed to closure at the end of the school year 2006 with the remaining pupils transferring to other local schools in Cropwell Bishop, Langar, Kinoulton and Hose.

It is due to re-open in September 2007 as an independent preparatory school for children aged 4-11 years.
